Meadow Lake began as a trading post in 1799 and became Saskatchewan's 14th city in 2009. With 5,322 people, it's the service centre for a wide stretch of farms, lakes and forest, and forestry matters here as much as farming: NorSask Forest Products, based in Meadow Lake, is described by the Meadow Lake Tribal Council as the largest First Nations-owned sawmill in Canada.
