Frequently asked questions.
About Baer Electric
What areas does Baer Electric serve?
We're based in Goodsoil, Saskatchewan and work across the northwest — Pierceland, Dorintosh, Rapid View, the Meadow Lake area and the cabin and resort communities around Meadow Lake Provincial Park. If you're nearby but not listed, ask us.
Is Baer Electric licensed and insured?
Yes. Blair Baer is a licensed electrician with 25+ years in the trade, and Baer Electric is fully insured.
Do you offer emergency electrical service?
Yes — 24/7. For outages, burning smells, sparking or storm damage, make the area safe, stay away from downed lines, and call 306-238-7655.
Are you an authorized Gemstone Lights dealer?
Yes. Baer Electric has been an authorized Gemstone Lights dealer since 2023, installing on new builds and existing homes. Because we're also licensed electricians, the power side of your install is handled by the same crew.
How do I get a quote?
Send a request through our quote form or call 306-238-7655. We answer quote requests within 24 hours, and quotes are free.
Electrical work
Do I need a permit for electrical work on my house?
Most new circuits, panel changes and renovation wiring in Saskatchewan need an electrical permit from TSASK. As the licensed contractor, we take out the permit for the work we do.
Can I do some of the wiring myself?
Saskatchewan lets homeowners wire their own home under a TSASK homeowner permit, with conditions. If you'd rather leave it to a licensed electrician, or only want help with part of the job, call us.
Do you wire grain bins and dryers?
Yes. Aeration fans, bin heaters, monitoring cables and dryer circuits are all part of our grain bin wiring work.
Can you work with three-phase power?
Some larger farm equipment runs on three-phase power. Tell us what you have and what you're adding, and we'll look at what's available at your yard and what the equipment needs.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Burning smells, smoke, sparking, hot or scorched outlets, water near electrical equipment, or losing power to heat, livestock ventilation or a well in winter. If you're not sure, call 306-238-7655 and ask.
There's a power line down. What should I do?
Stay well back, keep everyone else away, and treat the line as live even if it isn't sparking. Call 911 if anyone is hurt or there's a fire, then call SaskPower; downed utility lines are theirs to handle.
Do you work inside Meadow Lake Provincial Park?
Yes. Our shop is just south of Goodsoil, the park's central gateway. Lac des Îles is about 15–20 minutes away, Kimball Lake about half an hour and Greig Lake just under an hour.
Can you help open or close my cabin?
Yes. In spring we can check the panel, GFCIs, heat trace and pumps before everything goes back on, and in fall we help you shut off what should be off and keep heat on what needs it.
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Common signs are a full panel with no spaces, breakers that trip when big loads run together, an old fuse panel, or plans for a hot tub, EV charger, shop or electric heat. A load calculation tells you for sure.
How long will my power be off?
It depends on the job and on SaskPower's disconnect and reconnect. We'll tell you before we start and plan around heat and water in winter.
Gemstone Lights
What are Gemstone Lights?
Gemstone Lights are permanent smart LED lights for the outside of homes and businesses: roofline track lights, landscape flood lights, patio string lights and deck lights. They stay up year-round and you control colours, patterns and schedules from the Gemstone Lights app.
How much do Gemstone Lights cost?
Gemstone doesn't publish prices. Roofline cost depends mostly on linear footage and installation; flood, patio and deck lights depend on the number of lights and layout. We measure and quote for free.
What's the warranty?
Roofline and commercial track lights carry a lifetime warranty on the lights and 10 years on other parts, plus 1 year of labour. Deck lights also have a lifetime light warranty. Landscape flood lights and patio bulbs carry 5-year warranties. Register within 30 days of installation.
Do you install outside your normal service area?
For Gemstone installs, yes — we'll travel beyond the Goodsoil–Meadow Lake region. Tell us where you are.
