New Gemstone Lights · Technology

New power. Same beautiful light.

In Gemstone's own words: "You probably won't notice the difference by looking at your permanent outdoor lights. And that's kind of the point." The 48V system changes what's behind the lights — the power, the wiring and the protection — not the way they look.

Gemstone built the 48V platform from the ground up to make installation simpler and more reliable. Installers spend less time working through complicated wiring and more time on fit, finish and placement, and installs can be completed up to 30% faster than on the previous system.

Authorized dealers get in-house training on the 48V system. At Baer Electric, that training sits on top of a licensed electrician's understanding of codes and circuits — which is exactly the combination a low-voltage lighting platform deserves.

FAQ

Questions about 48v power system.

Product details are from The 48V Power System, checked October 2026.

Is 48V better just because it's a higher voltage?

Gemstone's answer is no — voltage alone doesn't tell you everything. The benefit comes from the complete system: simpler installation, built-in protection, certification and a platform for future products.

Will my lights look any different?

No. Gemstone says you probably won't notice the difference by looking at the lights. The change is in the power and wiring behind them.

Is the 48V system safe?

It's designed as a Class 2 certified system, complies with NEC and CEC requirements, includes overcurrent and short-circuit protection, and carries UL certifications for Class 2 power units, LED equipment and low-voltage lighting.

Does 48V work with my existing 12V Gemstone system?

Gemstone hasn't published compatibility details for mixing or upgrading older 12V systems. Ask us — we'll check your specific system with Gemstone before recommending anything.

Will new Gemstone products use 48V?

Yes. Gemstone says new products and innovations will be built on the 48V system going forward.
