Plenty of electrical jobs out here start with a long gap between where the power is and where it's needed. The shop sits well back from the house, the bin yard is across the yard, the sauna is down by the water. Running that power underground keeps it out of the way of equipment, snow and trees, and that's what our trenching services are for.

We dig the trench, lay the cable or conduit at the depth the code requires, put warning tape over it and backfill. Buried lines are located through Sask 1st Call before anyone digs. Because the same licensed contractor does the trenching and the wiring, nothing is left half-finished between two companies, and the run is sized properly for the load at the far end.

Lift services cover the other direction: tall yard lights, high shop and warehouse fixtures, signs, rooflines and anything else past the top of a sensible ladder. It's also how we reach high rooflines for [Gemstone permanent lights](https://baerelectric.ca/gemstone-lights/). Trenching is easiest between spring thaw and freeze-up, so book early if the job has to be done before winter.

## Why Baer Electric

- **One crew, start to finish:** We dig, lay, wire and connect, so the run is sized for the load and nobody is waiting on another contractor.
- **Located before we dig:** Buried lines are located through Sask 1st Call before the trench is opened.
- **Done to code:** Cable or conduit at the depth the Canadian Electrical Code requires, with warning tape above it.
- **Planned around frost:** With a regional frost-free season of roughly 96 days, we book trenching for the months the ground cooperates.
- **Up high, safely:** Lift equipment for work past a ladder's reach: yard lights, high fixtures, signs and rooflines.

## How it works

1. **Plan the route:** We look at where the power starts, where it's going and what's in the way.
2. **Locate and quote:** Buried utilities are located, and you get a written quote for the trench and the wiring.
3. **Dig, lay, backfill:** Trench, cable or conduit, warning tape and backfill, with a TSASK permit for the electrical work.
4. **Connect and test:** Both ends are connected and tested, and the trench line is left tidy.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do you trench for jobs that aren't electrical?

Our trenching is part of our electrical work: we dig for the runs we install. If you need something different, call and ask.

### How deep does underground power have to be?

It depends on the cable type, the voltage and whether it runs under a driveway or a lawn. The Canadian Electrical Code sets the depths, and we work to them.

### Do you get locates before digging?

Yes. We have buried lines located through Sask 1st Call before the trench is opened.

### What can you reach with the lift?

Tall yard lights, high shop and warehouse fixtures, signs and high rooflines. Tell us the height and the ground conditions and we'll tell you whether our equipment suits the job.

### When should I book trenching?

Between spring thaw and freeze-up, while the ground is workable. Call early if the job has to be finished before winter.
