# Panel & Service Upgrades — Baer Electric

> Baer Electric upgrades electrical panels and services for homes, farms and cabins around Goodsoil, Pierceland and Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, including the common 100-amp to 200-amp upgrade. As a TSASK-licensed contractor, Baer takes out the permit, plans the disconnect and reconnect with SaskPower, and installs the new panel to the current Canadian Electrical Code.

Plenty of older homes and farmhouses in this area still run on a 100-amp service, or on a panel that's full, double-tapped or older than anyone living there. That worked before the hot tub, the electric range, the heated garage and the shop welder. When there's no room left in the panel, or breakers trip whenever two big loads run at once, it's time to look at an upgrade.

The common job is going from 100 amps to 200 amps, which usually means a new panel, often a new meter base and service entrance, and new service conductors. We start with a load calculation, so the new service is sized for what you run now and what you plan to add. Sometimes a sub-panel in the garage or shop solves the problem; sometimes the whole service has to go.

Permits go through TSASK, and the power has to be off while the new service goes in, so we plan the day with you and with SaskPower. You'll know before we start how long you'll be without power. In winter we plan around furnaces, well pumps and livestock, so nobody is left in the cold.

## Why Baer Electric

- **Sized by calculation:** A load calculation tells us what your home or yard actually needs, now and with the things you're planning.
- **Permitted through TSASK:** We take out the permit and build to the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code, enforced in Saskatchewan since June 1, 2025.
- **Winter-aware outages:** When the power has to go off, we plan around furnaces, well pumps and livestock.
- **Ready for what's next:** Hot tubs, EV chargers, shops and electric heat all need room in the panel. We leave space for them.
- **Licensed contractor:** Baer Electric Inc. is a TSASK Full Contractor and Blair Baer a Full Journeyman. Both show up on TSASK's public licence lookup.

## How it works

1. **Assess:** We look at the panel, the service and what you run, and do a load calculation.
2. **Quote and schedule:** You get a written quote and a date. We arrange the permit and plan the disconnect with SaskPower.
3. **Install:** The power goes off, the new service and panel go in, and every circuit is moved over and labelled.
4. **Reconnect and inspect:** Power is restored, everything is tested, and the work is ready for TSASK's inspection.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?

Common signs are a full panel with no spaces, breakers that trip when big loads run together, an old fuse panel, or plans for a hot tub, EV charger, shop or electric heat. A load calculation tells you for sure.

### How long will my power be off?

It depends on the job and on SaskPower's disconnect and reconnect. We'll tell you before we start and plan around heat and water in winter.

### Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade?

Yes. Panel and service changes need an electrical permit from TSASK, and we take it out as the licensed contractor.

### Is a sub-panel enough?

Sometimes. If the main service has capacity but the panel is full, or you need power out at a garage or shop, a sub-panel can be the simpler fix. The load calculation tells us which way to go.

### Can you upgrade a farm or cabin service?

Yes. See [farm electrical](https://baerelectric.ca/services/farm-electrical/) and [cabin and lake property electrical](https://baerelectric.ca/services/cabin-lake-property/) for the details on those.

### What does a panel upgrade cost?

It depends on the size of the service, the meter base, the distance to the panel and how much has to be moved over. We'll quote it for free after a look.
