# EV Charger Installation — Baer Electric

> Baer Electric installs Level 2 (240-volt) EV charger circuits for homes, garages and shops around Goodsoil and Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. The TSASK-licensed contractor checks your panel capacity first, runs a dedicated circuit, installs or connects the charger, and takes out the permit.

Distances out here are long, so most EV and plug-in hybrid owners around Goodsoil want to leave home every morning with a full charge. A regular 120-volt outlet will trickle-charge a car overnight, but a Level 2 charger on a 240-volt circuit is what makes an EV practical for daily driving, especially when a trip to Meadow Lake, about an hour from Goodsoil, is part of the routine.

The job starts in the panel. A Level 2 charger is a large load that runs for hours at a time, so we check the service and do a load calculation before anything else. Then we run a dedicated circuit to the garage, shop or driveway, and either hardwire the charger or install the 240-volt outlet it plugs into. If the panel is full, an upgrade or a load-management device may be the answer.

Cold is part of the plan. Batteries charge more slowly and lose range in a prairie winter, and January in this region averages about −16.8 °C, so we put the charger where the cord is easy to reach in snow and the unit is protected from the weather. Permits go through TSASK, and quotes are free.

## Why Baer Electric

- **Panel first:** A load calculation tells us whether your service can carry a charger, ideally before you buy one.
- **Level 2 at home:** A dedicated 240-volt circuit for overnight charging, in the garage, the shop or by the driveway.
- **Placed for winter:** Chargers and cords go where they're easy to reach in snow and ice, with the unit protected from the weather.
- **Permitted:** Installed to the Canadian Electrical Code, with a TSASK permit.
- **Pre-wire when you build:** Building or renovating? A circuit or conduit to the garage now saves opening walls later.

## How it works

1. **Tell us about the car:** Which vehicle, which charger (or whether you need help choosing), and where you park.
2. **Panel check and quote:** We look at the panel, do a load calculation and give you a written quote.
3. **Install:** Dedicated circuit, then an outlet or a hardwired charger, with a TSASK permit.
4. **Test and hand over:** We test the charger, with your vehicle where possible, and show you the breaker that feeds it.

## Frequently asked questions

### What's the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?

Level 1 uses a regular 120-volt outlet and charges slowly. Level 2 uses a dedicated 240-volt circuit and charges several times faster, which is what most owners want for daily driving.

### Will my panel handle an EV charger?

Maybe. Older 100-amp services are often already busy, so we do a load calculation first. If there isn't room, a [panel upgrade](https://baerelectric.ca/services/panel-upgrades/) or a load-management device can make it work.

### Should the charger be hardwired or plugged in?

Both are common. Hardwiring is tidier and suits outdoor installs, while a 240-volt outlet makes it easier to swap chargers later. Check the charger's manual and we'll go over the options with you.

### Do I need a permit?

Yes. A new EV charger circuit needs a TSASK electrical permit, which we take out as the licensed contractor.

### Can you install a charger in a detached garage or shop?

Yes. That usually means a feed from the house panel or a sub-panel in the building, sometimes with a buried run. See [trenching](https://baerelectric.ca/services/trenching-and-lift/).
