Lac des Îles is the closest of the park's cabin lakes to Goodsoil: 15 to 20 minutes, depending which shore you're headed for. The south-shore resorts and cabins come off Highway 954, and Murray Doell campground on the north shore is reached by Highway 950. The lake drains through the Waterhen River and, a very long way downstream, into Hudson Bay. Maps and locals spell it both ways, Lac des Îles and Lac des Iles.

Cabin wiring has its own habits. Places get built in stages, wired by whoever was handy that summer, then left cold for months at a time.
